Introduction Japanese Woodworking

For centuries the Japanese are master in making aesthetic, flexible but strong wood joints. The Japanese way of making woodjoints is different from what we learn in our western world, both the philosophy and usage of the tools is different. In this course you learn about the culture and the various tools they use, such as pull saw, wooden block planes en nicely shaped chisels.  In 1 afternoon you will learn how to plot and make 1 or 2 of these specific Japanese wood joints.

  • Duration: 1 afternoon (4 hours) from 13.00 to 17.00.
  • Goal: Introduction into Japanese woodworking.
  • Target group: People who want to learn the basic skills and about the philosophy around Japanese woodworking.
  • Level: BASIC-advanced-expert.
  • Content: Introduction to the Japanese woodworking tradition, the tools, joints and methods.
