Het is wonderlijk om te zien hoe snel met houtdraaien een vorm ontstaat onder je handen. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan kandelaars, stoelpoten, schaakstukken, wielen, katrollen, sierknoppen, assen en houten hamers. In deze cursus ligt de nadruk op de techniek van het snijdend draaien. Verder komen aan de orde: schraaptechniek, gereedschap, geschikte houtsoorten, het draaien van profielen, afwerking en natuurlijk de veiligheid. Als je eenmaal de smaak en handigheid te pakken hebt, ben je er waarschijnlijk niet meer achter weg te slaan.
Wat kun je verwachten in deze cursus?
Avond 1: introductie, beginselen van houtdraaibank en beitels begrijpen. Deze avond draaien we al meteen een voetmassage rolletje (hol en bol draaien) en concentreren we ons op de bolle vormen. Zoals een appeltje en/ of eitje.
Avond 2: Na een kleine herhaal oefening om erin te komen concentreert de avond zich op het maken van een schaaltje. Mooie strakke bolle buitenkant en gelijkmatig van binnen uithollen! Best een uitdaging. Maar je ziet snel de techniek achter het houtdraaien.
It is remarkable to see how quickly a shape emerges beneath your hands while woodturning. Think of objects such as candlesticks, chair legs, chess pieces, wheels, pulleys, decorative knobs, axles, and wooden mallets. In this course, the focus is on the technique of spindle turning using cutting tools. Other topics covered include scraping techniques, tools, suitable wood types, turning profiles, finishing, and of course safety. Once you get the feel for it and develop the skills, you will probably not want to stop.
What can you expect in this course?
Evening 1: Introduction to the basics of the wood lathe and understanding the turning tools. During this first evening, you will immediately start turning a small foot massage roller (concave and convex turning) and focus on rounded forms, such as a small apple and/or an egg shape.
Evening 2: After a short warm-up exercise to get back into it, the evening focuses on making a small bowl. Creating a smooth rounded exterior and evenly hollowing out the inside is quite a challenge, but you will quickly begin to understand the techniques behind woodturning.
